A Designed as a gift book or family souvenir, this beautiful hardcover has a traditional connection with Christmas virtues (美德). Each virtue is discussed in a short article and then followed by four to five all-new heart-touching stories from Chicken Soup for the Soul. Each section ends with a one-page suggestion for how to start your own holiday tradition, from baking cookies to charity ideas, which reflects the spirit of the virtue. With the amusing description of life and heart-warming tales about cats, each touching story in Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers' Soul celebrates the special bond we share with our cats. The Real Dear Friends explores the classic puzzles which every child aged 9-19 faces: friends -- making them, keeping them, fighting with them, losing them, helping them and competing with them. And there are no lectures here; this is the straight talk from teens that young readers love. This is a book that covers problems for girls only! While there, I was attentive to Korean high schools and students. I was surprised by how different Korea's public high schools are from America's. Korean high schools can be all-girls, all-boys or co-ed (男女同校的)unlike our standard co-ed high schools. There are three grades: “go 1(10th) ”, “go 2” (1l th) and “go 3” (12th). “Go”is the first syllable of the word “go-deung –hakkyo”, which, simply translated, is “high school”. In America, unless you want to go to a private school, you don't have to take an entrance exam. In Korea, however, students must take a test to get in because of the many choices of schools. Another difference I couldn't help but notice was the students' appearance. With very few exceptions, all wear uniforms. A name tag (标牌)with the student's name, grade and homeroom number must also be worn. Girl's skirts can't be above the upper part of the knee, and it is forbidden to dye (染)your hair or wear accessories (装饰品)except small earrings. There are strict regulations for appearance to achieve neatness, and it seems the only freedom students have is with their choices of hair style, socks and shoes. The final difference was the setup of the classes. There may be 40 students in a classroom, but the number can be less or even more, depending on the population of the town or city. Although there are many students per classroom, they are very close, which I think is a result of not changing classrooms for different subjects. There are no levels in the subjects and the teachers are the ones who switch classrooms. They just have ten-minute breaks between subjects. In each class, students are ranked by their grades. This causes strict competition, and Korean students do a lot of studying. To help them, all schools have extra study classes after school. One other fact that helped me appreciate living in America is that Koreans have school on Saturdays. Although it's only a half day, I think I speak for most Americans when I say we could never imagine ourselves in school on a Saturday. Korea's public high schools are clearly different from America's. I had imagined them to be just like our schools, but now I have a clear picture of how different they are. 59. How many main differences are mentioned between Korea's public high school and America’s? A. 3. B. 4. C. 5. D. 6. 60. It seems that the writer _______ . A. is familiar with the education system of high schools in Korea B. is fond of Korean students' appearance C. prefers the high school life of America to the one of Korea D. feels it common to have lessons on weekends 61. What does the underlined word "setup" in paragraph 5 probably mean? A. Arrangement. B. Size. C. Number. D. Outline. 62. According to the rules, the students of Korea can _______ . A. go to different high schools without exams B. wear any clothes except uniforms at school C. attend different classes as they like D. have different hair styles 【文章大意】议论文。 Although it's only a half day, I think I speak for most Americans when I say we could never imagine ourselves in school on a Saturday. of schools. C Last week, we explained that the planet Mars has passed “opposition. ”It passed a point opposite the Sun. This week, we tell about the planet’s surprising motion(运动)among the stars. For thousands of years, people have recognized that planets travel among the stars. The planets generally follow the path taken by the Sun through the sky. The Sun’s path is called the ecliptic. The groups of stars along the ecliptic are called the Zodiac. The motion of the planets can be confusing at times. Everyone knows the Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. But this is caused by the turning motion of the Earth. Planets generally move from west to east. However, Mars will appear to move backward for about two months this year. This happens because the Earth is overtaking Mars on its way around the Sun. Mars began its backward, or westward, motion on May 11th, It will start moving eastward again on July 19th. Mars’ apparent motion has been a mystery to astronomers for hundreds of years. Most early theories of the solar system argued that the Sun and planets turned around the Earth. But the sudden westward motion of Mars presented a problem. Why would Mars move west for two months when it nears “opposition”? In 1543, a Polish church worker named Nicolas Copernicus published a different theory. His theory said the Earth and planets moved around the Sun in perfectly circular orbits. Copernicus’ theory was simpler. But his Sun – centered system still did not explain the observed motion of Mars very well. Finally, a German mathematician named Johannes Kepler published a complete theory of the motion of the planets in 1619. He had carefully studied the motion of Mars for many years. Johannes Kepler discovered that the planets do not move in circular orbits around the sun. Instead, they travel in flattened orbits called ellipses. Mars’ elliptical orbit is the cause of its unusual brightening this year and its apparent large size. During the next several weeks, you can see for yourself why the mysterious motion of Mars has caused so many people to wonder. 63. From the passage we can learn that . A. the sun and planets generally travel westward B. Kepler studied the orbit of the planets in 1619 C. Copernicus’ theory well explained the motion of Mars D. the Earth’s turning motion causes the sun to rise in the east 64. On July 19th Mars . A. will pass the “opposition” B. appears to change its direction again C. will begin to move westward D. appears to change its orbit again 65. Why does Mars appear to be bigger and brighter when it passes “opposition”? A. It is overtaking the earth. B. It follows the path of the sun. C. It moves in an elliptical orbit. D. It travels in a circular orbit. 66. What is the best title for the passage? A. The Recent Research into Mars B. The Surprising Motion of Mars C. The Great Discovery on Mars D. The Wonderful Mystery of Mars motion of the planets in 1619. Kepler在1619年出版了行星运动的完全理论” 可知,他的研究应该是在1619年之前,B错误;根据第六段最后一句“But his Sun – centered system still did not explain the observed motion of Mars very well.”可知,C错误;根据第三段第二、三句“Everyone knows the Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. But this is caused by the turning motion of the Earth.” 64. 【答案】B 【解析】根据第四段最后一句“Mars began its backward, or westward, motion on May 11th, It w
