He came to Beijing for a cooperative research at Beijing University two years ago. Such an academic life was colorful with a chance offered by the cultural exchanges project, "I'm in China".     Bradley was lucky to win the most "likes" for his photo story about his life in China and became one of 20 winners to visit locations by the project this summer. All the winners' experiences were filmed to produce a reality show, My Chinese Working Day, which will be broadcast by mid-September.     Bradley was chosen to work as a recreational manager for a Chinese wedding. The film crew took them to many "amazing sites" and the staff at the resort taught them a lot about how to incorporate modern Chinese features while still keeping traditional customs.     "I would have to say two things stick out as the most memorable: the helicopter ride and talking with the staff at the hotel about how they organize weddings here in China," he said. That was Bradley's first time to be in a helicopter, and he was too absorbed with the "stunning" view of the coastline.     "I think it is so important to show other Australians the different landscapes China has to offer. I think so many Australians, when they think about China, imagine the historical sites of Beijing and the exciting things to see in Shanghai but have no idea about other beautiful places, like Sanya or the many other places people have been taken to in this TV series. Happiness, sadness, disgust, fear and surprise can be communicated through facial expressions alone. But when part of the face is masked, it becomes more difficult to recognize these cues. If you cannot read someone else's emotional state, your ability to empathize(共鸣) with them may be compromised. Likewise, if your own mask is hiding your emotional state, others may not be able to empathize with you. Wearing a mask can also make you feel more distracted and self-conscious, further weakening your connection to others. Fortunately, you can regain some control over communication by working with what you have left—the eyes. If you want to increase understanding with a masked individual, you should look them in the eyes, which may be easier said than done. Eye contact generates self-consciousness, consumes extra brain power and becomes uncomfortable after only three seconds. But bear in mind, eye contact can also make you appear more intelligent and trustworthy. You might be surprised how much information is conveyed(传达)by the body itself. For instance, when someone is happy, they stand up straighter; when they are sad, they drop their head; and when they are angry, their whole body tenses up. Learning how people use their bodies to convey emotion may help reduce the uncertainty you feel when communicating with someone in a mask. Become aware of your own body language, too. When engaged in a conversation, you can appear more attentive by turning your body toward the individual, leaning in or nodding. To let another person know you want to start speaking, straighten your posture, or nod more frequently. Finally, be aware that imitating the posture of another person can increase how much they like you and even agree with you. By all means, continue the proper measures to keep yourself safe, but don't neglect your relationships as a consequence. Social distance doesn't have to mean socially distant. 8.What will happen if you wear a mask? A.Your fear won't be known by others. B.Others will have difficulty understanding you. C.You will lose the ability to empathize with others. D.Others won't focus on your face. 9.Why is eye contact difficult? A.It may lead to misunderstanding. B.It requires more brain power. C.It may cause people to believe you less. D.It will result in social distance. 10.What does Paragraph 4 and 5 mainly talk about? A.Body language is a double-edged sword. B.Body language can convey shocking information. C.We should make good use of body language. D.Be careful with your body language when talking. 11.What is the best title of this passage? A.How do people use their bodies to convey emotion? B.Facial expressions, the primary way of human connection C.Facial expressions, eye contact, body language, which is the best? D.How do we keep socially distant to keep ourselves safe? 四、 (2021·江苏苏州高三下学期期初模拟)The vaccine(疫苗) news continues to seem very encouraging. Britain started its mass vaccination effort and the U.S. isn't far behind. But there is still one dark cloud hanging over the vaccines that many people don't yet understand. The vaccines will be much less effective at preventing death and illness in 2021 if they are introduced into a population where the coronavirus is still severe—as is now the case in the U.S. A vaccine is like a fire hose(消防龙头). A vaccine that's 95 percent effective, as Moderna's and Pfizer's versions appear to be, is a powerful fire hose. But the size of a fire is still a bigger determinant of how much destruction occurs. At the current level of infection in the U.S.(about 200,000 confirmed new infections per day), a vaccine that is 95 percent effective—distributed at the expected pace—would still leave a terrible toll(伤亡人数) in the six months after it was introduced. Almost 10 million or so Americans would catch the virus, and more than 160,000 would die. This is far worse than the toll in a different situation where the vaccine was only 50 percent effective but the U.S. had reduced the infection rate to its level in early September(about 35,000 new daily cases). In that case, the death toll in the next six months would be kept to about 60,000. It's worth pausing for a moment on this comparison. If the U.S. had maintained its infection rate from September and Moderna and Pfizer had announced this fall that their vaccines were only 50 percent effective, a lot of people would have panicked. But the reality we have is actually worse. How could this be? No vaccine can get rid of a pandemic immediately, just as no fire hose can put out a forest fire. While the vaccine is being distributed, the virus continues to do damage. There is one positive way to look at this: Measures that reduce the virus's spread—like mask-wearing, social distancing and rapid-result testing—can still have great consequences. They can save more than 100,000 lives in coming months. 12.How does the author mainly present his argument? A.By giving definitions. B.By categorizing facts. C.By drawing comparisons. D.By appealing to emotions. 13.Which does the author think is a better way to save lives? A.Improving the effectiveness of the vaccines. B.Producing a greater variety of vaccines. C.Looking at the situation in a positive way. D.Wearing masks and practicing social distancing. 14.What does Paragraph 6 tell us? A.The vaccines are less effective than expected. B.The US have controlled the spread of the coronavirus. C.The death toll in the next six months will be about 60,000. D.Fewer people will die if the infection rate is lower. 15.What can we infer from the text? A.The vaccine is the hope of wiping out the pandemic. B.The public are optimistic about the effects of the vaccine. C.The public are concerned about the high infection rate. D.The distribution of vaccine will end the pandemic quickly. 五、(2021·辽宁辽西地区高三上学期期末大联考)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The Ways to Avoid Fighting with Your Mom Life is a struggle, but if you have a bad relationship with your mother, you should cool your passion, because mother-children relationships are very important. ___16____ Don't give her the silent treatment.
