Section A Questions 36 to 45 are based on the following passage. How many times have you heard the expression that most people spend more time planning their vacation than they do planning their lives? .I would 36 that expression by adding that most people spend more time "thinking" about their vacation than they do thinking about what's important in their life. While rest and relaxation are a must in living a 37 life, it's not what we were created to do. After all, the Master Creator took his R&R ( Rest and Recreation) on the seventh day, only after six days of "definitely directed thought". Wallace D. Wattles wrote, "There is no labor from which most people shrink as they do from that of sustained and 38 thought; it is the hardest work in the world. " And yet it is the first and primary labor of 39. My friend Mike Lit man wrote an outstanding article for his ezine (电子杂志) this week. It's called The Millionaire Composite (合成物)" and it 40 one of the big differences between super successful people and everyone else. He writes, "I recently visited with a Real Estate Multi Millionaire Mogul (大人物). What did I see next to his desk? His vision statement, along with a list of what he values in life-hand written. " "A few months back, I interviewed an individual who has sold over a billion dollars worth of products on television. He told me that he reads his life and business vision and goals dally, and that he TAKES TIME to 41 exactly what he wants to create--EACH NIGHT before falling asleep. " What is your life's purpose or your personal mission statement? Is it written down? Do you review it and think about it often? Is your life organized around your purpose and a set of goals that support that purpose? Without purpose and goals--defmitely directed thought--you are like the 42 "ship without a rudder (舵) , 1here is power m your purpose and in your goals. It is the power that takes you over obstacles, the fuel that 43 . you toward the life you envision. One of my favorite passages of James Allen is one he wrote in "The Mastery of Destiny" :"All successful people are people of purpose. They hold 44 to an idea, a project, a plan, and will not let it go; they cherish it, brood upon it, tend and develop it; and when assailed by difficulties, they refuse to be beguiled into surrender; indeed, the intensity of the purpose increases with the growing 45 of the obstacles encountered. " And that's-worth thinking about. achievement B)analyzes C)balanced D)consecutive E)expand F)fast G)magnitude H)moderately I)multitude J)notorious K)paralyse L)persecute M)propels N)proverbial O)visualize 答案:ECDABONMFG Section A Questions 36 to 45 are based on the following passage. Today nanotechnology (纳米技术) is still in a formative phase. Yet it is maturing rapidly. Between 1997 and 2005, investment in nanotech research and development by governments around the world ____36____from $ 432 million to about $ 4. 1 billion, and corresponding industry investment exceeded that of governments by 2005. By 2015, products incorporating nanotech will contribute approximately $1 trillion to the global economy. Descriptions of nanotech typically characterize it purely in terms of the minute size-assemblies between the size of an atom and about 100 molecular diameters (分子直径). That____37____makes it sound as though nanotech is merely looking to use infinitely smaller parts than conventional engineering. But rearranging the atoms and molecules leads to new____ 38____ One sees a transition between the fixed behavior of individual atoms and molecules and the adjustable behavior of collectives. Thus, nanotechnology might better be viewed as the ____39____ of quantum theory (量子论) and other nano specific phenomena to fundamentally control the properties and behavior of matter. The second stage, which began in 2005, focuses on active nanostructures that change their size, shape, conductivity or other properties during use. New drug delivery particles could release therapeutic(治疗的) molecules in the body only after they reached their____40____diseased tissues. Electronic components such as transistors and amplifiers with adaptive functions could be reduced to single, complex molecules. Starting around 2010, workers will ____ 41____expertise with systems of nanostructures, directing large numbers of intricate components to specified ends. One application could involve the guided self assembly of nanoelectronic components into three dimensional circuits and whole devices. Medicine could employ such systems to improve the tissue compatibility of implants, or perhaps even to build ____ 42____organs. After 2015 - 2020, the field will include molecular nanosystems. Whereas biological systems are water based and markedly temperature sensitive, these molecular nanosystems will be able to operate in a far wider range of environments and should be much faster. Computers and robots could be reduced to____43____small sizes. New interfaces linking people directly to electronics could change telecommunications. Over time, therefore, nanoteclmology should benefit every industrial sector and health care field. Nanotech does, however, pose new challenges to risk governance as well. Internationally, more needs to be done to collect the scientific information needed to resolve the ____44____and to install the proper regulatory oversight. Helping the public to ____45____nanotech soberly in a big picture that retains human values and quality of life will also be essential for this powerful new discipline to live up to its astonishing potential. When studying human talent, the temptation is usually to concentrate on the upper reaches. Understandably so: we all admire the Einsteins and Mozarts of this world and 36 to imitate them. In comparison, studying the opposite end of the spectrum might seem pointless, patronizing(摆出恩赐态度的)or downright tasteless. Lack of intelligence is shameful enough without treating people like lab rats. Yet it often takes a different viewpoint to find new insights into an old problem. Stupidity is too important and interesting to ignore. The science of stupidity is producing results that 37 our concepts of intelligence and that should be humbling for many of the smart people who run the world. It turns out that a tendency for entertaining 38 , foolish or illogical ideas is not necessarily the result of a low IQ. This measure of intelligence is largely 39 of rationality. Just because you score on the high end of one scale doesn't mean that you won't fall at the bottom of the other. Importantly, no one is 40 to the biases that lead to stupid decisions. Yet our respect for IQ and education means that it is easy to rest on the laure/s (桂冠) of our qualifications and assume that we are, by definition, not stupid. That can be 41 on a personal level: regardless of IQ, people who score badly on rationality tests are more likely to have unplanned pregnancies or fall into serious debt. Large scale stupidity is even more damaging. Business cultures that 42 encourage it, for example, may have contributed to the economic crisis. Indeed, the effects may have been so damaging precisely because banks assumed that intelligent people act logically while at the same time rewarding rash behavior based on intuition rather than 43 . As one researcher puts it: "The more intelligent someone is, the more disastrous the results of their stupidity". The same surely applies to politicians: the tenth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq serve
