As the most prosperous and powerful dynasty in the history of China's ancient society, the Tang Empire (581-618) was so famous in the world that foreigners call the overseas Chinese people 'the Tang people', the places where they live 'Chinatowns' (literally meaning Tang People Streets) and the clothes they wear 'Tangzhuang' (Tang suit). A Tang suit has two varieties in Chinese culture, which are obviously different from each other in style. One refers to the Tang-era clothes evolving from Hanfu, while the other refers to the Manchu male's jacket evolving from Magua of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), which is made by absorbing a Western-style suit cutting method. The Tang suits we see today evolved from Magua rather than Hanfu. A typical design of a Tang suit employs the Chinese characters, such as Fu (福, literally meaning happiness in Chinese) and Shou (寿, literally meaning longevity in Chinese) to express good fortune and best wishes, which is extremely popular among the Chinese people owing to its cultural connotation. The Tang suit has had a great influence on the clothing styles of Japan, North Korea, South Korea and Vietnam in history. For example, the Korean traditional dress evolved from a combination of Hanfu of the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220) and pao of the Tang Dynasty (581-618). As a necessary part of traditional Chinese culture, Tang suits are worn by overseas Chinese people during the Spring Festival each year, attracting many foreigners to wear them out of curiosity. More and more young Chinese people tend to wear Tang suits instead of Western-style suits and dresses on their big days. The Chinese TV presenters also prefer wearing Tang suits during hosting TV shows, especially at Spring Festival Galas. 1. Which of the following statement is Not TRUE? A. Tang suits are created by the overseas Chinese people. B. Tang Empire was a rich and well-known dynasty. C. Most overseas Chinese people are likely to live in Chinatowns. D. Tang suits have a long history. 2. The Tang suits we see today evolved from the clothes of . A. Tang Empire B. Han Dynasty C. Qing Dynasty D. nowadays 3. A Tang suit mainly has two varieties which refer to . A. Hanfu and Magua B. Fu and Shou C. Tang-era clothes and Manchu male’s jackets D. a Western-style suit 4. According to the passage, Tang suits . A. have great impacts on western countries in history. B. become popular because of containing Chinese culture C. are curious to most young Chinese people. D. are only worn by Chinese TV presenters at Spring Festival Galas. B I was talking to an old friend yesterday and he was asking me if I was happier since I followed my passion and started a new business. I replied "I would say that I'm more fulfilled since I changed my job. I feel like I'm positively contributing to the world in some way and this feels good. I'm not sure this happiness can be kept for long, but we get moments of happiness and then it escapes us. It is fulfillment that is more important." After hearing that, my friend said, "I don't feel fulfilled as I always feel like I could do more. Maybe I'm just bored of my job –advertising. I'm really tired and can't sleep. Maybe it's because I've got a really stressful week ahead. I'm going to think about how I can feel fulfilled. I've worked at some top companies, turned from designer to art director, won awards, started my own agency and it's not doing it for me." I see this a lot. People, who are at the top of their game, struggle for their goals and achieve everything that the world defines as success. But when they get to the top, it's lonely up there. And something is missing. The world tells us that we'll be happy when... We'll be happy when we get the husband, the kids and the house. We'll be happy when we get the nice car, expensive clothes and the luxuries. We'll be happy when we get the fame and glory, the TV show appearances, and the media attention. We'll be happy when we're busy, busy, busy, too busy to stop. I've got questions for you. “Why do you do what you do?” … There may be something for you to think about. 5. From the author’s reply, we can know that the author . A. gets more fulfillment after starting a new business B. makes great contributions to the world C. believes that moments of happiness often escapes us. D. ensures that happiness can be kept for long 6. The author’s friend felt _______ about his present situation. A. desperate B. unsatisfied C. proud D. confident 7. In the author’s opinion, we’ll be happy when we . A. get the family B. own expensive cars C. become famous D. contribute to the world 8. The following questions can be added after the underlined sentence EXCEPT . A. Is it because it lights you up and makes you feel alive? B. Is it because you're using your abilities to make the world a better place? C. Is it because success is killing you and you don’t have to work hard on it? D. Is it because you love the job and you can't wait to get out of bed in the morning? C Apple Pay is Apple's mobile payments service. As with the Apple Watch, Apple has adopted the Apple symbol followed by "Pay" for the service's name, though the company also refers to it as "Apple Pay." Available since October 20, 2014, Apple Pay is designed to allow iPhone 6, 6s, and 6 Plus, and 6s Plus users in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada to make payments for goods and services with their iPhones in retail stores using an NFC chip built into their iPhones. With the Apple Watch, Apple Pay is also extended to the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5s. To use Apple Pay with one of these devices, a paired Apple Watch is required to make the payment. This is made possible through the NFC chip included in the Apple Watch. Apple Pay also lets users make one-tap purchases within applications that have adopted the Apple Pay API. Devices capable of using Apple Pay within iOS apps include the iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 Plus iPhone 6s Plus, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4, and iPad Pro. All of these devices contain an NFC controller where the "Secure Element" of Apple Pay is located, keeping customer information private. To keep transactions secure, Apple uses a method known as "tokenization," preventing actual credit card numbers from being sent over the air. As of early 2016, Apple Pay is accepted at more than two million retail locations in the United States. There are more than five million contactless payment-ready locations across all of the countries where Apple Pay is available. 9. A. a process of making data secure B. a method of making more money C. a credit card number D. a transaction being sent over the air D For Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, the middle class extends to those earning up to $250,000 a year. Both have used that figure as the dividing line, raising taxes on those with higher incomes as part of their campaigns to ensure the wealthy pay their fair share. But a deeper look into Americans' income data shows that figure would let many well-off Americans off the hook(挂钩). Now those with incomes of $250,000 a year are among the top group of the nation's earners. A whole family’s income of $206,600 was enough to get into the Top 5% in 2014, according the latest U.S. While there's no set definition for middle class, the Pew Research Center says it includes those making two-thirds to two times the average income for one's household size. That means a middle class family of three would earn between $42,000 and $126,000 a year. Setting the bar between middle class and wealthy at $250,000 isn't a new idea. Former President Bill Clinton cited that figure when he campaigned on raising taxes on the wealthy in 1992, said Martin Sullivan, chief economist with Tax Analysts. After he was elected, Clinton set a new top tax bracket(纳税等级) for those earning more than $250,000. In 2008, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both promised to raise taxes on the wealthy, whom they defined as earning more than $250,000. Obama then used this figure for several of his tax changes. In the 2012 fiscal cliff deal with Congress, however, he agreed to raise the bar to $450,000 when it came to increasing income and capital gains rates on the rich. Still, $250,000 is an arbitrary number, Sullivan said. While it doesn't reflect the American middle class, Washington politicians and officials use it because they are surrounded by people with higher incomes. 12. What would be the best title for the passage? A. What is the middle class? B. Taxing the rich C. $250000, an arbitrary number D. American’s income data 13.According to Para 2 and 3, a couple, who earn about $80,800 this year, can . A. get into the Top 5% B. be among the top group of the na
