2023届高考英语三轮复习·冲刺押题 外刊阅读理解训练48 ——改编自The good and bad of tattoos 【文章】 Tattoos are a very popular form of self-expression, with one in five people in the UK having some ink. The increase in the number of tattoo parlours in Britain by 173% between 2004 and 2014 suggests that tattoos have become more widely accepted despite the controversy surrounding them. According to Lee Clements of the British Tattoo Artist Association, this rise in popularity can be attributed to celebrities getting tattooed, thereby making it fashionable for people to copy them. However, not everyone is accepting of visible tattoos, with some employers still having dress codes that prohibit them. For example, Grace shared how she lost job opportunities in sales when employers saw her hand tattoo. Legal director Susan Harris at the GMB union explains that having a tattoo is not a protected characteristic, so a person may be dismissed if their tattoo breaches the employer's dress code - except on religious grounds. Another concern related to tattoos is the risk of infection due to inadequate training by those operating tattoo parlours. Based on a report from the Royal Society for Public Health, just under 20% of tattooed individuals experience negative side effects including swelling, burning or skin infections. While attitudes towards tattoos seem to be changing over time, caution should still be exercised as its long-term impacts are uncertain. Those considering getting a tattoo are advised to visit a reputable tattoo artist with a portfolio and discuss the design before making any hasty decisions. Temporary tattoos or henna tattoos may be a good alternative to see if it's something you want permanently. 【重点词汇&词组】 tattoos [tæˈtuːz] n. 纹身 self-expression [sɛlf ɪkˈsprɛʃən] n. 自我表达 ink [ɪŋk] n. 墨水,彩墨 tattoo parlours [tæˈtuː ˈpɑrlərz] n. 纹身店,刺青店 widely accepted [ˈwaɪdli əkˈsɛptɪd] phrase. 广泛接受的 controversy [ˈkɑntrəvɜrsi] n. 争议,争端 Lee Clements [li klɛmənts] n. 李·克莱门特斯,人名 British Tattoo Artist Association [ˈbrɪtɪʃ təˈtuː ˈɑrtɪst əˌsoʊsiˈeɪʃən] phrase. 英国纹身艺术家协会 popularity [ˌpɑpjəˈlærəti] n. 流行,普及度 celebrities [səˈlɛbrətiz] n. 名人,明星 copy [ˈkɑpi] v. 复制,模仿 employers [ɪmˈplɔɪərz] n. 雇主,聘用者 dress codes [drɛs koʊdz] n. 着装规范,着装要求 prohibit [prəˈhɪbɪt] v. 禁止,阻止 Grace [ɡreɪs] n. 格蕾丝,人名 lost job opportunities [lɔst dʒɑb ˌɑpərˈtuːnətiz] phrase. 运营,操作 Royal Society for Public Health [ˈrɔɪəl səˈsaɪəti fɔr ˈpʌblɪk ˈhɛlθ] phrase. 英国皇家公共卫生协会 negative side effects [ˈnɛɡətɪv saɪd ɪˈfɛkts] phrase. 负面副作用,负面影响 swelling [ˈswɛlɪŋ] n. 肿胀,膨胀 burning [ˈbɜrnɪŋ] n. 烧伤感,灼热感 skin infections [ˈskɪn ɪnˈfɛkʃənz] phrase. 皮肤感染,皮肤病 attitudes [ˈætətjuːdz] n. 态度,看法 changing over time [ˈtʃeɪndʒɪŋ ˈoʊvər taɪm] phrase. 作品集,样本集 hasty decisions [ˈheɪsti dɪˈsɪʒənz] phrase. 草率的决定,匆忙的决断 temporary tattoos [ˈtɛmpərɛri təˈtuːz] n. 临时纹身,暂时刺青 henna tattoos [ˈhɛnə təˈtuːz] n. 海娜纹身,海娜染料涂饰艺术 【阅读理解习题】 1.
