2023届高考英语三轮复习·冲刺押题 外刊阅读理解训练73 ——改编自The Black Lives Matter protests preview the politics of a diversifying America 【文章】 The movement against police mistreatment of African Americans is expanding beyond its traditional support base, creating landmark consequences for both the movement and the younger generations who have driven this spring's wave of protests. This growing circle of concern has been most notable among young adults, who now overwhelmingly express positive views about the movement and also make up a majority of those who have protested. This shift may prove crucial not only for the movement itself but also for the politics of the millennial and Generation Z cohorts. These generations will account for roughly as large a share of eligible voters as baby boomers and older generations in 2020, according to demographer Bill Frey's calculations. However, demographic change won't inherently increase the political leverage of African Americans. In building stronger cross-racial alliances, the movement for racial equity has an important opportunity to make progress. According to Frey's census data analysis, although America's population has grown significantly more diverse over the past fifty years, the African American share has increased only slightly, from around 11% in 1970 to 12.5% today. In conclusion, the growing support for the movement against police mistreatment of African Americans among younger generations has significant implications for both the politics of these cohorts and the future of racial equity movements. Building stronger alliances across racial lines could be critical for advancing this movement's objectives and achieving meaningful progress towards justice and equality. 【重点词汇&词组】 1. movement (n.) 运动 2. police mistreatment (n.) 警察虐待 3.
