【文章】
A new study has found that people consume more calories and fatty foods when using their smartphones while eating. Researchers filmed 62 volunteers between the ages of 18 and 28 who were given various foods to eat until they felt satisfied. During three separate trials, the participants were recorded eating with no distractions, using a smartphone, or reading a magazine.
The study showed that on average, volunteers ate 591 calories while using their smartphones compared to 535 calories without any distractions. Additionally, those who were considered overweight consumed an average of 616 calories while using their phones. The researchers also discovered that using smartphones during meals prevented the brain from accurately registering the amount of food ingested. Consequently, when using their smartphones, the volunteers consumed 10% more fatty food, and they also ate more when reading magazines.
Lead author Márcio Gilberto Zangeronimoa stated that smartphones and tablets have become primary distractors during meals, even for children. Distractions like these prevent the brain from correctly understanding the amount of food ingested, making it essential to pay attention to how this can impact food choices. This study highlights the importance of limiting distractions and staying mindful of what we eat to maintain healthy eating habits. The findings have been published in the journal Physiology and Behavior.
