Climate change could kill off birds 【文章】 A recent study shows that climate change is causing birds to move from their natural habitats. Researchers recreated a study done in 1985 on bird populations living on a mountainside in Peru. They found that almost all the birds had moved to higher elevations on the mountain, which has caused at least eight bird groups to go extinct entirely. The scientists suggest that temperature changes and changes in food sources have forced the birds up the mountain. The research has shown that animals, including birds, are moving up in elevation as a reaction to warming temperatures. It is believed that this study provides evidence that rising temperatures and the movement to avoid them can lead to extinction. The average temperatures on the mountain increased by 0.42 degrees Celsius since the original study in 1985. During the original study, the researchers spent several weeks using nets to catch and release birds while taking detailed notes. In 2017, another researcher used similar methods to see how the bird groups had changed since 1985. The birds were recorded using sound devices placed on the mountain to capture sounds of birds that might not easily be seen. The new study confirmed that birds had moved an average of 98 meters further up the mountain. The director of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology noted that birds accustomed to areas with little temperature change faced especially significant risks because of climate change. These findings suggest that what is happening on this mountaintop is also happening more generally in the Andes and other tropical mountain ranges. 30. What did researchers find when they recreated the study of bird populations in Peru conducted in 1985? A. That almost all the birds had moved to higher elevations on the mountain. B. That many birds had gone extinct due to habitat destruction. C. That there were no birds left on the mountainside. D. That temperatures had decreased on the mountainside. 2. What factor do scientists suggest is driving the birds to higher elevations on the mountain? A. Fear of danger from predators. B. Changes in food sources. C. Habitat destruction from human activity. D. Decreasing temperatures on the mountainside. 3. What evidence does this study provide for the impact of climate change on biodiversity? A. Animals are moving up in elevation as a reaction to warming temperatures leading to extinction. B. Rising temperatures have not been shown to lead to extinction of animal species. C. Birds are unaffected by increasing temperatures caused by climate change. D. The extinction of bird populations is caused by air pollution, not by changes in temperature. 4. How much did the average temperature on the mountain increase between the original study in 1985 and the more recent study? A. 0.98 degrees Celsius B. 0.42 degrees Celsius C. 0.32 degrees Celsius D. 1.8 degrees Celsius Answer: B 5. What methods were used in the original study to gather information about the bird populations? A. Sound recording devices. B. GPS tracking systems. C. Visual observation using binoculars. D. Catching and releasing birds using nets. 6. How did the researcher in 2017 assess changes in the bird populations? A. Through visual observation using binoculars. B. By using sound recording devices to capture bird sounds. C. By tracking the birds' movements using GPS. D. By examining samples of the birds' feathers. 7. What risks do birds exposed to little temperature change face due to climate change? A. Increased food sources. B. Decreased risk of predator attack. C. Large population booms. D. Significant risks from climate change. An
