——改编自Everyone’s resolution is to drink more water
【文章】
Water is an essential resource that our bodies need to function correctly. However, the recent trend of promoting hydration as a cure for all of life's problems may have more philosophical roots than scientific evidence. Twitter and other social media platforms were flooded with resolutions to drink more water on January 1st, which sparked anxiety about water consumption.
According to Dr. Mitchell Rosner, a kidney specialist at the University of Virginia, who specializes in overhydration in athletes, there is no evidence that mild dehydration significantly impacts anyone's performance. For those sit at their desks all day, he suggests drinking only when you feel thirsty. At best, excessive water intake will make you urinate frequently, and at worst, it can cause hyponatremia, dangerously low sodium and electrolyte levels in the body, potentially resulting in hospitalization and death.
Furthermore, research suggests that water may not be the most hydrating beverage available. A study conducted on 72 male subjects found that full-fat milk, skim milk, and orange juice keep people more hydrated than still water.
In conclusion, while water is essential for our bodies' functions, excessive hydration may not provide the health benefits many people believe. Drinking when you feel thirsty is the best practice for maintaining proper hydration levels. Additionally, other beverages may provide better hydration than water alone.
